OUR DESIGN PROCESS

We are so grateful you’re here, and excited to help with your project however you need! Whether this is your first time selecting stone countertops or you’ve done this before, our goal is to make the process simple, educational, and enjoyable.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Material Selection

  • Read through our FAQ’s, blogs, and other info on our website to learn more about the pros and cons of different materials.
  • Check out our gallery of completed projects to find some inspiration. Pinterest, Houzz, and Instagram are also great places to look. Make sure to save things you like to show us during your visit!
  • Browse our recommended suppliers in Salt Lake if you’re looking for something beyond our current selections
  • Explore the inventory at our 10,000 sq ft slab gallery in Smithfield.

Edge Selection

Edge profile and thickness can dramatically affect your final look, and we’re here to help you select the perfect pairing for your material and overall style. All standard 3cm edge profiles are included in the price, but we also offer a myriad of premium edge styles to add a custom touch. Two of our most popular premium options are highlighted here, but you can explore the full range on our customizations webpage or see examples in-person during your showroom visit.

Backsplash

Will your countertops include a backsplash? If so, these are a few things to consider:

  • Height (standard 4”, full/to the bottom of upper cabinets, or custom)
  • Design (straight, custom edge, curved)

Location (entire perimeter, just behind sinks or ranges, etc.)

Sink & Faucet Info

To ensure a proper cut and fit, we’ll need:

  • Sink brand and model (must fit your cabinet box)

  • Faucet brand and model

  • Are there any additional drill holes needed? (air switch, soap dispenser, filtered water, etc.)

Cabinets

Are you working with existing cabinets or new ones?
This affects when we can schedule templating (measuring out where the countertops will go). We template after any existing countertops are removed or after new cabinets are fully installed.

Note: Evolution Design does not perform demolition, but we’re happy to help you coordinate it.

Appliances & Other Considerations

Let us know about any:

  • Range brand name and model number

  • Counter-sitting cabinets or appliance garages

These details help us account for spacing, seams, and design flow.

Structural Considerations

Do you have any areas of unsupported stone in your design?
This could include:

  • Bar overhangs

  • Floating shelves, benches, or countertops

  • Open leg desk areas

We’ll help you understand if additional brackets or supports are needed and what’s included.
